India's rice export ban 'not country specific'

Friday, 9 November 2007

Indian High Commission (IHC) in Dhaka Thursday said, export restriction by India on non-basmati rice is 'not country specific', as some press reports suggested that the restriction is applicable to Bangladesh only. In a press release it said, the export restriction on non-basmati rice was imposed by India from October 9 taking into account the availability of rice in the Indian domestic market. The restriction shall not be applicable to export of non-basmati rice, if the minimum export price (MEP) is more than $425 per tonne. —UNB
