The passengers train service between Bangladesh and India is expected to start later this month as the country is completing the official procedures with its neighbour, official sources said.

"The commercial train service between Dhaka and Kolkata will start from the third week of July after resolving some outstanding issues with the Indian side," said Ministry of Communications (MoC) Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Tuesday after a meeting with railway officials.

The meeting discussed the county's position on the number of passenger trains to be operated each week and also focused on necessary preparatory works in Bangladesh for launching the service.

Presided over by the MoC secretary, the meeting finalised a set of proposals including operating train services every alternate day against the Indian proposal for a single train service a week.
