Sunday, 14 December 2008

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has praised the Bangladesh development Model, saying that the steady development Bangladesh achieved through ideas like micro-credit and its economic policies particularly in agriculture production has brought peace and stability to the country, reports UNB.
The Indonesian President made the observation when Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury called on him at the President's hotel suite in Bali Thursday.
President Yudhoyono said Indonesia has "much to learn from Bangladesh" and expressed the hope that the excellent bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation would lead to mutual benefit.
Iftekhar Choudhury lauded President Yudhoyono's leadership in launching the Bali Democracy Forum which, he said, would spread the ideals of democracy, pluralism and human rights throughout the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Indonesian President deeply appreciated the points made by the Foreign Adviser in his speech to the Bali Democracy Forum.
Iftekhar in his speech mooted the concept of an 'Asia Pacific Home' as a regional grouping for the whole of the Asia and the Pacific areas.
President Yudhoyono inaugurated the Bali Democracy Forum Wednesday, with the inaugural session co-chaired by President Yudhoyono of Indonesia and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of Australia.
The Forum was attended by 35 delegations from the region, including the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister of Timor Leste and many Foreign Ministers.
On Thursday, Iftekhar Chowdhury chaired a session of the Forum on "Democracy and Development", said a Foreign Ministry release Saturday.
