Industrial police launched in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Dec 4: In a bid to keep the industrial wheels moving undisrupted the authority has commissioned the industrial police in the port city of Chittagong. The Chittagong contingent of the industrial police has been launched with 386 policemen.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun today inaugurated the Industrial Police-3 at the dock labour colony near the Chittagong Export Processing Zone under the port police station as chief guest.
The function was addressed by Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Ameen, State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Huq Tuku as special guests.
Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, IG of Police Hasan Mahmud Khondakar were present on the occasion chaired by DG Chittagong Range of Industrial Police Abdus Salam. BGMEA first vice president Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and local workers' leader Chandan Kumar also addressed on the occasion.
While addressing an opinion exchange meeting and gathering of the elites after launching the programme Sahara Khatun said, with the launching of industrial police both the workers and owners of industries will be benefited and it will play a vital role as it has been set up to help maintain a congenial atmosphere in the major industrial areas of the country.
She said that several attempts have been made to create unrest and untoward situation in the EPZs of the country for a long time.
"Some outsiders in guise of workers have worked from behind the scene for which some owners of industries have suspended production in their factories for security reasons," she said.
Dilip Barual has warned the workers against trying to create untoward situation on silly demands and asked the owners to be sympathetic to the legal demands of the workers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commissioned the industrial police with 2990 policemen at the Bangabandhu International Conference Hall in Dhaka on October 31 last.
