NAOGAON, June 9: The local people of Naogaon have urged the government to undertake necessary steps to ensure proper industrialisation in the district.
The people of this neglected district demanded that the government extend special financial incentives to accelerate the pace of industrialisation in Naogaon to solve the local unemployment problem.
They also expected that the government would come forward to set up new industrial units in Naogaon after constructing one ten-mile long by-pass road outside the district town.
Sources said, the farmers of the district suffer a lot when their crops are destroyed by natural calamities like flood, drought and storm etc. The freak of nature often shatters their hope of having a good harvest. Falling victims to natural disasters, they gradually become poorer and consequently get entangled into the vicious cycle of poverty.
The economic woes of these people can be minimised if a large number of small and medium industrial units along with cottage industries are set up across Naogaon, which, consisting of eleven upazilas, is one of the largest districts of the country. These industrial units can act as an alternative source of income to the farmer families of the district, the sources added.
