Infighting behind AL candidates’ defeat in UZ polls: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said the Awami League-backed candidates suffered defeat in the ongoing upazila elections due to the party’s internal conflicts. He viewed that the local government elections like upazila (UZ) parishad polls should be held on party basis. The minister was talking to reporters after a discussion at Sylhet auditorium on Wednesday. The finance minister said, “It is meaningless to hold local government election like upazila polls. The role the political parties in the upazila polls has already made it a political one,” according to a news agency.
