Inflation down to 9.6pc in Sept

Thursday, 18 October 2007

FE Report
The country's point to point inflation for the month of September stood at 9.6 points according to provisional figures, official sources said.
The estimated level will be welcome news for the present caretaker administration as the point to point inflation climbed down below the double digit.
The point to point inflation hovered around above the double digit level for the July-August period that posed a serious threat to the country's macro economic stability.
The point to point inflation reached 10.10 points in July for the first time in the last two decades and went up further to 10.11 points in August this year.
Sources did not disclose details of the provisional estimation on the food and non food inflation and their impacts on the rural and urban areas.
They, however, said the provisional data prepared by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and sent to the planning ministry showed that food inflation has dropped in both rural and urban areas.
When asked, a senior BBS official said the inflation figures are usually finalised in the third week of the following month.
But in the current month, the BBS has been asked to send the provisional data a bit earlier for some technical reasons, added the official.
