Wednesday, 7 May 2014

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has said inflation rate in the country is gradually declining and attributed this to political stability. The point-to-point inflation dropped to 7.46 per cent in April from 7.84 per cent in March, BBS Director General Golam Mostafa Kamal told a news conference on Wednesday. “Transportation was normal due to stable political condition, that's why imported and locally produced commodities could be supplied on time to meet the demand," he said. Past several months have witnessed a steady fall in inflation rate due to stability at ground level, he said. Food inflation was 8.95 per cent in April, a slight drop from 8.96 in March. Inflation, other than food prices, rose to 5.26 per cent from 5.23 per cent in March. The government said inflation would be brought down to below 7 per cent in the current 2013-14 fiscal year, according to bdnews24.com.
