Information minister exchanges views with BFUJ, DUJ leaders

Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad and Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Saturday visited the offices of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) in the city and exchanged views with the journalist leaders, reports BSS.

During the visit, DUJ Joint Secretary Shaban Mahmud spoke on behalf of the journalists.

The information minister extended full support to the legitimate demands of the journalists and said measures would be taken to reinstate those sacked and harassed unfairly in Bangladesh Television (BTV), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and other mass media during the rule of the last alliance government.

Chaired by DUJ President Shah Alamgir, the meeting was attended, among others, by BFUJ President lqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, BFUJ Secretary General Altaf Mahmud, former BFUJ president Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul, former National Press Club general secretary Swapan Kumar Saha and former BFUJ vice-president Akhtar Yusuf.

The information minister expressed his sympathy to DUJ General Secretary Omar Faruq, who was injured in a road accident recently and now undergoing treatment at Trauma Centre in the city, and wished him early recovery.

He also lauded the role of journalist union leaders in the past.
