Injured cop dies

A cop, who sustained bullet wound during a drive in a house for recovering arms in the district on Friday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 30, Assistant Sub-inspector of Tangail Model Police Station and a resident of Gauripur village in Savar. Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Tangail Model Police Station, said being tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the house of a terrorist to recover arms around 11:30 pm on Friday. Sensing the presence of police, the miscreants fired several gunshots targeting the policemen, leaving ASI Nurul injured. The miscreants managed to flee the scene. ASI Nurul was rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital from where he was shifted to DMCH as his condition deteriorated. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at noon, according to a news agency.
