Injured SI nabs alleged mugger: Tk 5.9m recovered

Police on Monday night arrested a mugger along with Tk 5.9 million from Eskaton Road in the city. The arrestee is Liton, 32, said Assistant Commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Police Shibly Noman. He said that Sub-Inspector Iftekhan along with two police constables was patrolled on Eskaton Road around 8pm. Suspecting Liton and three others, as muggers, Iftekhar tried to arrest them while the gang of three muggers started firing shots on police, he said. Police also retaliated with firing triggering a gunfight that left Iftekhar and one mugger-Liton injured. However, the injured Sub-Inspector managed to round up Liton from the spot but the others managed to escape, said Noman. Later, Tk 5.9 million was recovered from the mugger who was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) under police custody, according to a news agency.
