Injured Swechchhasebak League leader dies in hospital

A local Swechchhasebak League leader, injured in a gun attack in Dhaka’s Madhya Badda on Thursday night, died in a city hospital on Friday, raising the death toll from the incident to three. Mahbubur Rahman Gama, cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka (north) city unit Swechchhasebak League, succumbed to his injuries around 9:30am on Friday at the United Hospital at Gulshan, said Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station. On Thursday night, an Awami League leader and an activist of the ruling party were killed and two others, including Mahbubur Rahman Gama, were injured in a gun attack in Madhya Badda. Shamsuzzaman Shamsu, AL Ward-6 president of Maddhya Badda area and AL activist Manik, also manager of a local hospital, died on the spot. Injured Gama and Abdus Salam 45, senior vice-president of Badda union unit of Jubo League, the youth wing of Awami League, were rescued and rushed to the United Hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muntashirul Islam said a gang of miscreants opened fire on the four while they were chatting near the Water Tank at Adarsha Nagar around 9pm, leaving them injured, according to a news agency.
