Inqilab journo Atique makes confessional statement
Thursday, 30 January 2014
Ahmed Atique, diplomatic correspondent of the Daily Inqilab, made a confessional statement before a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act (ICT), 2006, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-or-Rashid recorded his statement.
The court also sent Atique to jail after rejecting the bail petition filed by Atique's lawyer Syed Ahmed Gazi.
Earlier, on January 16, police arrested three Inqilab journalists, including Atique, and sealed off its printing press conducting a raid on its RK Mission Road office in the capital.
The raid was conducted after a case was filed with Wari Police Station under the ICT Act alleging that the daily published a fake and fabricated report on Thursday which tarnished the country's image at home and abroad as well as the law enforcement agencies.
