Inqilab news editor put on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Robiulla Robi, the news editor of The Daily Inqilab, on a 5-day remand in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman passed the order when Azizur Rahman, a DB inspector and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand. Earlier, police arrested Robiullah Robi from the Inqilab office on Monday night for publishing a report headlined ‘A police official enjoying unchallenged authority using the Prime Minister’s name’. Proloy Kumar Joardar, Additional Inspector General (planning and research) filed the case with Wari Police Station under Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Act against the Inqilab Editor, its News Editor, City Editor, Chief Correspondent, concerned reporters and others for running the report in the vernacular daily, according to UNB.
