Ins sector counting Tk 150m losses daily due to hartal-blockade

Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) said on Monday the insurance sector is counting Tk 150 million losses daily due to nonstop hartal and blockade called by BNP lead 20-party alliance.
"The total amount of investment in insurance sector is Tk 300 billion. This investment is now under threat due to hartal. There is no new business but we are witnessing loss of Tk 150 million daily," BIA President Sheikh Kabir Hossain told journalists at a press conference at BIA office, reports BSS.
He urged the BNP led alliance to withdraw hartal-blockade to save the country's overall economy including the insurance industry.
"Hartal is a democratic right. But what is staging now is only use of muscle power," he said and urged to withdraw such programme that leads to killing of people, vandalism and arson attack.
