Instant punishment for adulteration of exportable shrimps demanded

Speakers at a seminar Saturday urged local administration to arrest those people on the spot who are involved in mal-practice and adulteration causing damage to the quality of exportable shrimps.
They said this at seminar titled 'building awareness among all the shrimp industry stakeholders against malpractice and adulteration' organized by Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) in collaboration with Business Promotion Council (BPC) at conference hall of BFFEA Khulna, said a press release.
Ashoke Kumar Biswas, Joint Secretary and Divisional Additional Commissioner (General), Khulna was present as chief guest while Rafiqul Islam, former Director General of Department of Fisheries now working as national consultant UNIDO, BEST-BFQ project and Kazi Belayet Hossain, Senior vice President of BFFEA addressed the seminar as special guests.
Divisional Additional Commissioner (General) Mr Biswas has directed the Deputy Commissioners and other government officials not to give monetary punishment but spot trial against the corrupt shrimp businessmen.
Senior Vice President of BFFEA said Bangladesh shrimp industry has received positive response from buyers of international market this year as the exporters are relentlessly trying to export quality shrimps.
He sought cooperation from all stakeholders to continue campaign against malpractice and adulteration for greater interest of shrimp business.
District Fisheries officers of Satkhira, Bagerhat and Khulna, Thana Fisheries Officers, representatives of Chingri Banik Samity, exporters and other stakeholders were present at the programme.
