Integrated approach for reduction of disaster risks stressed

RAJSHAHI, Nov 27 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion here today said integrated approach has become an urgent task for substantial and sustainable reduction of disaster risks caused by the adverse impact of climate change in the region including Barind tract.
They viewed adverse impact of climate change has started posing a serious threat to the overall living and livelihood condition and farming in the dried area. So, there is no alternative to adapt to the changed situation.
Besides, the well water and sanitation are also facing serious threat due to multifarious reasons including arsenic intrusion, lack of underground recharging, rising of char lands and accretion leading to water scarcity and quality problems.
The observation came at a divisional level sharing workshop styled "Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation" held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Trinamool and Concern Universal-Bangladesh jointly organized the workshop in association with Capacity Strengthening Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Project.
Prof Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan addressed the opening session as the chief guest with Jalal Uddin Ahmmad, Director of Trinamool, in the chair.
