Wednesday, 5 September 2007

Visiting Intel Corporation Chairman Craig Barrett said, Intel is greatly interested in the development of Bangladesh's ICT, education and also in other potential sectors, if the government has interest, suitable policy and support, reports UNB.
He said this while he made a courtesy call on Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed at the latter's office Tuesday morning.
In response, the CA assured him of the government's all out support in every case, and said Bangladesh is a small country but is large in terms of its population with a huge market potential, according to the CA's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim.
The CA also said Bangladesh is keen on development and expansion of technology. The country has a large number of computer-literate students, and it is a good sign that the young entrepreneurs are also coming forward now, which was absent 10-15 years back.
During the meeting, Fakhruddin Ahmed urged the Intel chairman to make Bangladesh a partner in its programmes, particularly in the ICT sector, availing the advantage of tremendous business opportunity here.
The CA also urged the Intel chief to set up something to make Bangladesh its partner connecting with the rest of the world, describing the Bangladeshi young workforce as "doable, trainable and wanting to take risk."
Craig Barrett said, his company is ready to work aggressively with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of ICT of Bangladesh, as Intel now focuses mainly on ICT and education sectors.
He also said, Intel wants to set up infrastructure of teachers' training programme in Bangladesh immediately. Under such a programme, Intel has already trained up about 0.7 million teachers in India.
Intel also has a student and teacher training programme, and around 5.0 million teachers are now being trained all over the world.
Barrett said, Intel is giving priority in teachers' training programme, as qualified teachers are the roots of all successes.
"We'll focus on higher education, and shape the education curriculum so that students of today can face the world of tomorrow," he also said.
Intel signed a MoU with Grameen Solutions before its chairman called on the CA.
Intel Country Business Manager GA Manjur and Secretary (in-charge) of the CA's office Kazi M Aminul Islam were also present during the meeting.
