Inter Cooperation visits sweet gourd field in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Mar 30 (BSS): A team of high officials and 40 beneficiaries of International Development Agency 'Inter Cooperation' Monday visited sweet gourd field on Teesta riverbed of Belka Union under Sundarganj Upazila. The objective of the tour was to witness the successful sweet gourd cultivation method on Char land and exchange experiences on how to produce the variety in their respective areas of the beneficiaries in coming seasons. Sweet gourd has been produced at Brahmanputra and Teesta Riverbed of the district this year enormously to help change the socio-economic condition of targeted 8,000 river eroded people here under PFP SHIREE project funded by GOB and DFID. GUK and Akota, two partners of local voluntary organisations, are implementing the project in the district with the technical support of Practical Action Bangladesh (PAB). The visiting beneficiaries went round the sweet gourd fields one after another and talked to the growers in details and also expressed their much enthusiasm to cultivate it in their areas. The officials particularly the agriculture experts of the local organisations and PAB accompanied them during their visit.
