Inter-university debate contest begins at TSC

The four-day 'seventh inter-university anti-corruption debate competition-2007' began at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) following a colourful rally Sunday.
DU Debating Society (DUDS) and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) jointly organised the competition to galvanise youths against irregularity and corruption.
Attending the inaugural session as the chief guest, Chairman of Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury said the young generation would have to be in the front line of any drive against corruption and create awareness among the people of all walks of life about the malpractice.
"Every child, youths and citizens of the country have to learn how to hate corruption and think how we can get rid of this malpractice", he added.
Declaring inauguration of the function, DU Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz said that debate was the most effective co-curricular activity for the students who can make Bangladesh one of the top most corruption-free countries of the world.
Some 32 teams from different public and private universities participated in the debate completion.
DU Pro-VC AFM Yusuf Haider, Syed Manjurul Islam and TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzam were present on the occasion as special guests. DUDS president Tahmid Alam Amit presided over the function.
