Intercity train derails in Gazipur

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

Train communications on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes remained suspended for two hours on Tuesday following the derailment of a train at Pubail Railway Station in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district. Pubail Railway Station master Tahurul Islam said the locomotive and a compartment of the Dhaka-bound intercity train ‘Upakul Express’ from Noakhali veered off the tracks due to glitch in its cylinder while its driver was trying to stop the train around 1 pm. However, no casualty was reported in the accident. Following the accident, Sylhet-bound ‘Joyantika Express’ remained stranded at the outer signal for two hours. Later, it was diverted through the line-3 of the station whereby train communications on the two routes resumed, according to a news agency.
