Thursday, 27 March 2014
The High Court has granted BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir an interim bail for six months in one of the several vandalism cases pending against him. The bench of Justices Md Rezaul Hasan and Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order on Thursday. One of the cases the senior BNP leader has been accused in pertains to a petrol-bomb attack on a vehicle in Dhaka city on January 3. Earlier, on Jan 20, the HC had granted him an eight-week bail in the case. But the order was overturned on March 9 by a five-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain following an appeal by the state. On Mar 16, Mirza Alamgir renewed his bail appeal before Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, who rejected the plea, landing the BNP leader in jail. He was also denied bail by the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s court, according to bdnews24.com.
