International Criminal Justice Day being observed

Thursday, 17 July 2014

International Criminal Justice Day today (Thursday). The day is being observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere across the world. The day is observed on July 17 every year as it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the treaty that created the International Criminal Court (ICC). On June 1, 2010, at the Review Conference of the Rome Statute held in Kampala (Uganda), the Assembly of State Parties decided to celebrate July 17 as the Day of International Criminal Justice. The day has been successful enough to attract international news attention, and for groups to use the day to focus attention on particular issues such as genocide in Sudan’s Darfur, Falun Dafa, and serious crimes of violence against women. A discussion will be held in the city on the occasion. Besides a colourful rally will be brought out to celebrate the day. Prime Minister Sheikh issued a message on the eve of the International Criminal Justice Day, according to a news agency.
