International Women's Day observed in districts

KHULNA, Mar 8: The International Women's Day-2012, was observed in a befitting manner in Khulna as elsewhere in the country.
Elaborate programmes were chalked out by the various government and non-government organizations which included processions, rallies, and discussion meetings. Participitated by a large number of women a colourful procession was brought out today in observance of the day in the city which paraded the main thoroughfares carrying festoons and chanting various slogans marking the day.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque led the procession, Deputy Commissioner Jamsher Ahmed Khandoker, district women affairs officer Nargis Jaman and other women leaders and workers took part the rally from different organizations.
A discussion meeting was held under the auspices of Bangladesh Manobadhiker Bastobayon Shangstha at its office premises with Advocate Abdul Malek Khan in the chair. The meeting was attended among others by the secretary of the organization Mominul Islam, freedom fighter Abdul Kayum, Shwapon Guhu, director of an NGO, and Shamima Shultana Shilu.
BSS reports from Rangpur: The International Women's Day was observed here Thursday with a call for enhancing participation of the adolescents with development activities and rooting out discriminations for equal women rights and gender equity.
The district and upazila administrations, Department of Women's Affairs (DWA), government departments, NGOs, socio- cultural and professional organizations chalked out elaborate daylong programme in observance the day.
The daylong programmes included dozens of colorful rallies, seminars, discussions and cultural functions.
