Internet glitch hampers import goods assessment

Our Correspondent | Wednesday, 8 July 2015

CHITTAGONG, Jul 7: Assessment of imported goods remains suspended for an hour today due to problems on the Chittagong Custom House internet server.
Suspension of assessment had also the negative impact on the discharge of cargo from the port, said the clearing and forwarding agents. The employees of the C&F Agents demonstrated in the Chittagong Custom House from 12.00 pm to 1.00.
Operations manager of the CCH Md Sajjad said internet disruption forced them to suspend assessment activities for about an hour.
However, the situation returned to normal after 1.00 pm.
"We could not work for an hour due to problems in the internet connection. But we have assessed all those documents, which were scheduled for release Tuesday," he said.
Representatives of the C&F Agents told this correspondent in the afternoon that they had been suffering from the net server communication in the last few days.
They said many import documents remained to be assessed, which caused delay in discharge of cargo in the port. They had to count extra charges for this, they added.
