NARAYANGANJ, May 22: A court here placed former RAB officials-Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Arif Hossain-on a fresh eight-day remand Thursday in connection with the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case, reports agencies.
Judicial Magistrate KM Mahiuddin passed the order when Detective Branch Police Inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal produced them before his court on the expiry of their five-day remand.
The IO prayed to the court for showing the two former officers of Rapid Action Battalion-11 arrested in the case, saying many evidences suggest that they were involved in the seven murders, and sought a 10-day remand for them.
After hearing, the court put the duo on eight days' remand. No lawyer stood for the accused RAB officers on Thursday.
Former RAB officer Lt Commander MM Rana is now on a seven-day remand in connection with the killing of seven people, including Narayanganj City panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
Meanwhile, police will seek the Interpol's help to arrest the prime accused of Narayanganj multiple murders, Nur Hossain. The district police have sent a letter to the Police Headquarters suggesting this, Narayanganj police inspector (Special Branch) Mainur Rahman said Thursday.
"Red alerts have been already sounded at the borders and in all ports," he said. However, it's not the first time that Nur Hossain had been on the Interpol's radar.
A similar alert was issued against him a decade ago. He was reportedly in some foreign country at that time. Upon his return to Bangladesh, the police did not act on it as Hossain had then established himself as a local leader of the ruling Awami League.
Relatives of murdered councillor Nazrul Islam have alleged since the murders that it was Hossain, who paid the RAB Tk 60 million to carry out the executions. Police raided Hossain's Siddhirganj residence almost a week after the bodies were recovered.
According to media reports, another accused Haji Yasin Miah has also fled the country.
Three ex-RAB officers have been arrested and being questioned following the murders, but the police are yet to arrest any of the accused.
