Int'l confce on statistical science from Dec 26

A two-day international conference on statistical science, to be organised jointly by North South University (NSU), Bangladesh and Carleton University, Canada, will begin in the city on December 26.
Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Salehuddin Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the conference as the chief guest at the city's Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Certre (BCFCC), said a press release.
Eminent scientist Dr M Shamsher Ali, president of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences will be the special guest while M A Awal chairman of NSU, Hafiz GA Siddiqi, vice-chancellor of NSU will attend the conference.
The theme of this year's conference is 'recent development in statistical sciences'.
This is the first time such an international conference is going to be held in Bangladesh with the participation from almost all the public and private universities of Bangladesh as well as USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Kuwait, Iran, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Japan, Pakistan and India.
More than 90 papers from local and international scholars will be presented in the conference.
The main objectives of the conference are to bring together established and new researchers working on various statistical topics from all over the world, provide a platform for researchers and practitioners in statistical sciences to actively share their research experiences, ideas and contributions in a stimulating environment, forge greater cooperation between statisticians of Bangladesh origin and the rest of the world, promote the discipline of statistics as a profession in the wider community, particularly to the decision makers and promote interaction and understanding amongst statisticians in the world.
The conference will honour professor A K Md. Ehsanes Saleh in recognition of his outstanding contribution in statistical sciences. Dr. Saleh is now a Distinguished Research Professor and Professor Emeritus, Scholl of Mathematics and Statistics, Carleton University, Ottawa in Canada.
The closing ceremony of the conference will be held at Hotel Sarina on December 27. Chairman of the University Grants Commission Professor Nazrul Islam will remain present as the chief guest.
