Int'l Day against Drug Abuse observed in dists

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking-2023 was observed in the districts on Sunday with the theme "People First: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention, reports BSS.
In Manikganj, marking the day, the district administration and district narcotics control office under the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) chalked out different programmes.
A discussion meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev.) Mohsin Mridha in the chair.
Additional Deputy Magistrate (ADM) Sanjida Jesmin was present at the function as chief guest while Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotic Control Md. Hamimur Rashid delivered welcome speech.
Additional SP Sujan Sarkar, District Information Officer Nur Hossain, Deputy Director of Statistic Minar Uddin, Chairman Jatyo Mohila Sangstha Manikganj Luxmi Chattarjee, among others, spoke on the occasion. Prizes were also distributed among the winners of different competitions held earlier.
In Feni, marking the day, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner at around 11:30 am on Sunday.
Deputy Director of the district Department of Narcotics Control Mizanur Rahman Sharif presided over the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of district Local Govt Division Golam Md Baten and Additional Deputy Commissioner Avishek Das.
Golam Md Baten in his speech said we should not hate drug abusers. "We should be sympathetic to them for their rehabilitation in society," he added.
Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out in the town.
In Chapainawabganj, marking the day, the district administration and district narcotics control office under the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) chalked out the elaborate programmes.
In the morning, a big colorful rally was brought out from the deputy commissioner's office premises and after parading the main roads of the town the procession ended at the same venue.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the DC's conference room with additional district magistrate Asif Ahmed in the chair.
Deputy commissioner AKM Galiv Khan attended the meeting as the chief guest while superintendent of police Saidul Hasan, commanding officer of BGB-59 Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, civil surgeon Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid and deputy director of Narcotics Control Department Mohammad Anisur Rahman Khan attended it as special guests.
Prizes were also distributed among the winners of different competitions held earlier.
