FE report | Wednesday, 17 September 2014
A three-day international exhibition on light engineering and electrical engineering products, services and raw materials will be held in Dhaka from tomorrow (Thursday) to Saturday.
In the exhibition at least 75 local and international engineering and electrical products manufacturing companies will showcase their own developed and manufactured products.
At a press conference in the city on Tuesday it was disclosed by the organisers that in the three- day show at least 20 companies from India would also participate in a big pavilion.
The organisers in the press conference said in the same venue there would be two individual trade shows- the first one is 5th international industrial, engineering and manufacturing technology trade show to be organised by Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners' Association (BEIOA).
And the second one is 7th international technology trade show on products, machinery and raw materials for electrical industry to be organised by Bangladesh electrical merchandise manufacturing association.
The BEIOA president Abdur Razzaq said light engineering sector being mother of all the industries is helping local economy by saving millions of dollars every year as import substitute and as local requirements.
The LEI is providing back up support for spares and new equipment for cement, paper, jute, textile, sugar, food processing, railway, shipping, garment, capital machinery and for other industries.
Munir Chowdhury, joint secretary, ministry of commerce and industries is likely to attend the three- day exhibition as chief guest at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh electrical merchandise manufacturing association said under-invoicing for imported spares and other light engineering electrical products is hampering local production.
He said along with power crisis the government should check the matter of under- invoicing to protect local industrial products.
He said currently some importers show low price of the imported products to avoid high tariff and they sale them in the local market at lower prices. As a result, local manufacturers cannot compete with them.
The exhibition is also supported by Business Promotion Council under the ministry of commerce, Ask Trade and Exhibitions Private Limited, Zakaria Trade and Fair International and EEPC India.
