Int’l industrial exposition begins in city

A three-day international industrial exposition kicked off in the city on Thursday, aiming to help the local industries to contribute more in their innovations.
The expo titled 'International Advanced Components and Technology (ATS) Expo-2023' was organised by the country's leading electronics manufacturer Walton.
The country's first-ever industrial expo will be held at Hall-1 of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital from August 10 to 12.
Addressing as the chief guest, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said Walton is manufacturing every product needed in the electronics sector, reducing billion-dollar import expenses, contributing to employment creation and export earnings.
"If Walton had not started producing electronic products, Bangladesh would have had to pay billion dollars' import bills, he said, adding, "Walton is not only saving billion dollar import costs but also contributing to the country's export income."
Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh Executive Director Ahsan H Mansur also addressed the event and said the company has made a tremendous journey in terms of innovation and employment.
"Some 50,000 products and spare parts are huge in number that were displayed in the exhibition," he said, urging the Walton to strengthen their efforts to gain more foreign purchase orders and exports to global markets.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Mahbubul Alam terming the private sector as the core partner of an economy, appreciated the event organised by Walton.
He hoped that the mega arrangement would help the local industries boom further.
"And, for a sound business growth we need business-friendly government and political stability. The current business growth, including the growth of Walton, has proved such an environment prevailing in Bangladesh," the FBCCI's newly-elected president said.
He, however, emphasised uninterrupted power supply and business cost reduction, including in terms of taxation and others.
Among others, Walton High-Tech Industries PLC's Directors SM Mahbubul Alam and Nishat Tasnim Shuchi, Managing Director and CEO Golam Murshed, BSEC Chairman Prof Shibli Robayet-Ul Islam, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman AHM Ahsan, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Sameer Sattar and Philippine Ambassador to Dhaka Leo Tito L. Ausan, Jr. addressed the event.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries Director SM Mahbubul Alam said Walton's highly trained skilled engineers are manufacturing industrial materials and components through state-of-the-art machinery.
ATS Expo will showcase more than 50,000 international quality industrial materials, components, services and testing facilities manufactured by Walton at a total of 21 stalls in four categories.
