Int'l plastic fair in city February 2012

The 7th four-day 'Bangladesh Int'l Plastics, Packaging and Printing Industrial Fair 2012' will kick off on 15 February 2012, disclosed Shahedul Islam, president of Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) at a press conference held at the BPGMEA office Monday.
To boost the plastic industustry domestically and globally, BPGMEA, along with Taiwan-based Chan Chao International Co Ltd, is going to organise the fair which will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city from February 15 to 18, 2012.
Shahedul Islam said, "World famous brand Toyota automobile company is in search of plastic sources from Bangladesh as 60 per cent of their vehicle is plastic".
Judy Wang, executive director, overseas of Chan Chao Int'l Co Ltd expressed her optimism that there will be a 15 per cent growth of participants in the fair compared to the last fair.
The organisers expect that more than 300 representatives from different countries will participate in the forthcoming fair.
Plastic machinery, chemicals and raw materials, heat and control equipment and other plastic-related goods will be exhibited in the fair.
Shamim Ahmed, senior vice-president, Mosaddekur Rahman Nannu, general secretary, A S M Kamal Uddin, former president, Ferdous Wahid, former president, Jhontu Kumar Saha, joint general secretary, Md Nowroz Ali, advertisement and publication secretary and A T M Saidur Rahman Bulbul, sports and cultural secretary of BPGMEA and Denis Lin, director of the Chan Chao Int'l Co Ltd, among others, were present at the press conference.
Shahedul Islam said, "The plastic industry is an emerging sector in Bangladesh. Last year it exported goods worth Tk 20 billion".
According to BPGMEA office, about three thousand small, medium and large industries with 0.6 to 0.8 million workers are involved in this sector. The growth rate of this sector is above 20 per cent annually.
