Intra-BNP clash leaves 20 hurt in Pabna

Wednesday, 14 April 2010

PABNA, Apr 13 (UNB): At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP in the town Tuesday.
BNP leader and Opposition Chief Whip Zainal Abdin Farroque came here to appear before senior judicial magistrate’s court in connection with a defamation case filed against him.
District unit general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mostak Ahmed Azad on March 18 filed the case against Farroque for making negative remarks against Sajeeb Wajed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Supporters of municipality mayor and former organising secretary of district BNP Kamrul Hasan Mintu chanted slogan demanding withdrawal of expulsion order on Mintu at court gate as the chief whip was coming out of court after getting bail at about 11am.
Police charged baton on the supporters apparently in a bid to clear the way for the opposition chief whip.
