KUSHTIA, Sep 20 (UNB): The reported operation of armed camps by Jamaat in the West Bengal under the government of Mamata Banerjee is a cause for concern for Bangladesh and India, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Saturday.
The militants in Bangladesh have international links, which is alarming not only for Bangladesh but also for the world, Inu told reporters replying to their queries. Inu spoke to reporters after a conference of JSD workers at Fayzullahpur in Bheramara Upazila of Kushtia. The minister said Bangladesh and India have already signed an agreement to tackle cross-border terrorism.
He said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is a direct patron of militancy in the country.
BSS adds: Hasanul Haq Inu said militancy is not only a threat to Bangladesh but also dangerous for the whole world. Referring to the recent news items published in West Bengal media that said Jamaat-led armed terrorists were being funded by one of the MPs of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the minister expressed his concern over the news saying, "The news of existing den of Jamaat-led armed terrorists in West Bengal has created deep concern both in Bangladesh and West Bengal."
While exchanging views with the journalists after a meeting with JSD workers at Bheramara here, he said, "Our government has given attention to this issue as Bangladesh and India has a bilateral agreement to combat terrorism."
The information minister was also very critical of some foreign friends who are frequently talking about militancy and terrorism and said, "They could not see terrorist activities of Jamaat-Shibir in Bangladesh, patronized by Begum Khaleda Zia."
He said "It's really frustrating that the European and American friends, while visiting Bangladesh, they meet Begum Zia but they never ask Begum Zia to give up her relations with militants and war criminals."
Inu observed that the militant forces and terrorist groups, trying to create unrest across the country in many ways here, must have links with international militant quarters.
Earlier, the information minister inaugurated the construction work of the building of 'Muktijouddhar Bari' at Dharampur at 2:30 pm and later a new mosque at Charkhadimpur .
The JSD president also spoke at his party's Workers Conference at Mokarimpur Union as the chief guest.
