Inu describes ICT as weapon of mass liberation

Friday, 25 April 2014

Describing information and communication technology (ICT) as a weapon of mass liberation, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has underscored the need for using it in the public interest. “Like all technologies, unless it is used in the public interest, it can become a very powerful instrument for political control, creating monopolies as well as social and economic inequalities. This is what we have to guard against. Everybody now, therefore, is pondering how to master and why to apply ICT,” Inu said. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Global Multi-stakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance – NETMundial – chaired by Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff in the presence of 1,200 representatives from 90 countries, including the USA, Russia, the UK, India and Japan, in Sao Paolo of Brazil on Wednesday, according to a message received in Dhaka on Thursday.
