A minister said on Friday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will have to be tried on charges of arson and burning people to death to continue democracy and development, reports BSS.
"Khaleda Zia, militants, arsonists and Jamaat are tied together. Khaleda Zia should not be spared. If she is given concession, democracy, development, religion and humanity would burn to ashes," Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said.
Hasanul Haq Inu, also president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on 'Uprooting Militants-Arsonists: Advancement of Democracy' in the city.
Dhaka city unit of JSD organised the discussion.
JSD general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia, joint secretary Nazmul Haq Prodhan, MP, Jatiya Nari Jote president Afroza Haq Rina, JSD organising secretary Naimul Ahsan Jewel, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Hasanul Haq Inu said Khaleda Zia should not have any room in politics of Bangladesh.
If zero tolerance is shown to militancy, the same policy should be taken for Khaleda Zia, he added.
The minister said those involved in corruption and made secret alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami cannot fight against militancy and Khaleda Zia.
He alleged that Khaleda Zia had plotted to grab state power by burning people to death in a planned way. Therefore, a question has arisen whether this leader of arson attacks will stay in the politics of Bangladesh, he added.
Those who want to give concession to Khaleda Zia, actually want to destroy democracy and development, he said.
Khaleda Zia's participation in Jamaat's Iftar party has proved that she would not change, he added.
Hasanul Haq Inu paid tributes to Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam and said she had initiated the movement for trial of war criminals.
