Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu called Friday for stopping use of such information technology that hampers peace in public life, reports BSS.
"We will have to use safe information technology keeping pace with the world by preventing objectionable issues and woman and child pornography," he said while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day conference of Bangladesh Network Operation Group (BDNOG) at Gold Water Convention Centre at Bashundhara City in the city.
The minister said the government would take all steps for helping the information technology sector flourish by resisting circulation of falsehood and rumours to ensure security of the state and the people.
Presided over by BDNOG President Nurul Islam Roman, the function was addressed by State Minister for Information Technology Junayed Ahmed Palok as the special guest.
Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) Director General Paul Wilson and BDNOG Board of Trustee Chairman Suman Ahmed Shabbir also spoke on the occasion.
The information minister expressed the hope that Bangladesh would lead the world in use of information technology for developing a modern state in a democratic system.
He observed that the BDNOG conference would benefit people having knowledge of information technology, particularly engineers.
He said the participation of foreign experts would expedite the activities of digital Bangladesh.
The minister said expansion of modern information technology would have to be ensured at the grassroots level, preventing religious provocation, falsehood, rumours and objectionable comments about women.
Junayed Ahmed Palok said 75 per cent people of the country would be brought under internet coverage in next five years.
"We want to see Bangladesh as a modern country. To this end, people of all professions would have to work together," he added.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by a press conference where various aspects of the two-day conference were detailed.
