Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu urged Friday journalists to play a positive role to free fruits and politics from formalin, reports BSS.
"Like food and fruits, politics has become tainted . . . militancy, corruption and communalism are the key elements responsible for polluting country's politics," he said while inaugurating a 'Fruit Festival' at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the capital.
Mr Inu, also the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), observed that the formalin-mixed food items including fruits cause health hazards while polluted politics is unsafe for country's democracy.
The minister said the drive against formalin-tainted food items started and it would continue.
He lauded different pragmatic steps of journalists against anti- democratic, communal and autocratic forces at different times.
The minister also sought cooperation of all patriotic people especially media persons, to build a non-communal democratic society.
DRU organised the festival where 20 kinds of fruits including mango, jackfruit, guava, watermelon and lichi were served. DRU President Shahed Cowdhury chaired the discussion.
Among others, fruit festival convener Ashraful Islam , member secretary Parveen Sultana Kakon, DRU vice-president Rafiqul Islam Azad, organising secretary Mursalin Nomani, training and research secretary Sajjad Hossain, publicity secretary Sheikh Mohammad Jamal Hossain, sports secretary Badrul Alam Khokon and social welfare affairs secretary Jamiul Ahsan Shipu spoke on the occasion.
