Inu urges EC not to register any religious political party

Tuesday, 25 September 2007

The Election Commission (EC) has been urged not to register any religious political party.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Huq Inu made the request while speaking at a bilateral meeting between the JSD and Samyabadi Dal in the city Monday, reports UNB.
He also urged the caretaker government to declare a roadmap of politics to make a success of the roadmap announced by the Election Commission.
The JSD arranged the meeting as part of its discussion-series with like-minded parties to have their views on issues to be discussed at the upcoming dialogue with the Election Commission on reform issues.
"Not only with the parties of our 14-party alliance, we'll also sit with other like-minded parties who believe in the spirit of the liberation war," Inu said.
Urging the EC not to register any religious political party, he alleged that religious politics is the main enemy of democracy and gave rise to militancy in the country.
"Military rulers were responsible for introducing religious politics in the country," the JSD president said.
Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua also asked the EC not to register any party engaged in politics using the name of religion.
"We'll cooperate with the Election Commission and will place our proposals to the EC with united approach," he added.
