FE REPORT | Friday, 2 August 2024

The government has reconstituted the Judicial Enquiry Commission to investigate all the deaths, violence, vandalism, arson, looting, “terrorist” activities and damage caused across the country from July 16 to 21 during the quota-reform movement.
Earlier, it formed a one-member Judicial Inquiry Commission to probe the death of only six people reported on July 16.
To this effect, the Cabinet Division issued a notification on Thursday.
Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, will head the commission.
Two other members of the commission are Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury.
The commission will submit a report to the government within 45 days after completing their task, the notification reads.
Earlier on Tuesday, Law Minister Anisul Huq said the number of the Judicial Enquiry Commission will be increased to three.
The commission will identify the causes and those responsible for the deaths of persons caused from July 16 to 21 during the movement.
It will also identify the persons responsible for violence, vandalism, arson, looting, terrorist activities and damage in the six days.
