CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY CASE

Investigator gives testimony against Hasina for third day

Wednesday, 1 October 2025

The investigating officer has testified for a third consecutive day in the July Uprising-linked crimes against humanity case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others, reports bdnews24.com.
Md Alamgir once again appeared before the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said Alamgir is the final witness to testify in the case over the deadly suppression of last year's student-led anti-government protests.
"After his statement, the defence lawyer will cross-examine him. This will conclude the testimony phase of the hearing."
Along with Hasina, ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun are implicated in the case. While Hasina and Kamal are absconding, Mamun pleaded guilty and turned witness for the state.
Earlier, on Sept 24, special investigation officer and prosecutor Tanvir Hasan Joha testified in the case. He was later cross-examined by state-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain on behalf of Hasina and Kamal.
The tribunal opened the trial against the trio on five charges of incitement, provocation, and superior command responsibility for the killing of 1,400 people, along with participation in a joint criminal enterprise on Jul 10.
This marked the beginning of the first trial of Hasina in the same court that her government had formed to try the war criminals of 1971.
Several political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP, have been demanding the trial of Hasina and the Awami League as a party to be completed before the elections.
Law Advisor Asif Nazrul recently said in a Facebook post that he hoped the trial would be concluded during the interim government's rule.
