Investment-friendly tax structure to get priority in upcoming budget : Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Tuesday that the industry and investment-friendly tax structure will get importance in the upcoming national budget to help boost country's industrial production.
He also said a time-befitting step will be taken in this regard after discussion with all including industrialists and stakeholders.
"The present government always gives emphasis on the growth of local industry, keeping in mind all development strategies," the minister said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) at his office in the city.
Industries Secretary Mohammad Mainuddin Abdullah, BCI President AK Azad, Senior Vice-president Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Directors Md Shamsur Rahman, Dr Md Jahangir Alam and Engineer Mohabbat Ullah were, among others, present at the meeting.
Mr Amu said: "I personally support the imposition of more duty on import of finished items as it will encourage the local production."
The BCI leaders urged the minister for taking steps to supply sufficient gas and electricity to the industrial units.
They thanked the government for boosting electricity production and expressed their hope of getting available supply of electricity soon.
The business leaders also requested the minister to revise the rate of interest on bank loan as it is very high comparing to other countries. They also urged to form an inter-ministerial committee to oversee different problems of the local entrepreneurs. The BCI leaders expressed their satisfaction about the overall economic situation and forex reserve of the country.
