NEW YORK, Oct 17 (BSS): Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States (US) M Humayun Kabir has said investment in IT sector could help reduce poverty in Bangladesh by creating new jobs and providing the grassroots people with a global knowledge network.
He made this remark while addressing a seminar organised by Bangladesh Association of Software Information Service (BASIS) at the "Outsource World New York- 2008" Thursday, according to a message received here Friday.
The BASIS members could also invest in innovation and knowledge creation so that Bangladesh can catch the markets in the global IT business, he said.
Ambassador Kabir also highlighted the competitiveness of Bangladesh in the IT field and invited US investors to take advantage of Bangladesh as a new frontier for investment.
He also urged the expatriate community to intensify their efforts to spread computer literacy and IT education in Bangladesh so that Bangladesh could benefit from the strengthened empowerment programmes.
In this context he also invited the Bangladesh community members to extend a supporting hand to the computer literacy programme currently undertaken by a group of Bangladesh expatriate members in New Jersey.
