Invitation letter for AGMs
Saturday, 12 July 2008
The general public, nowadays, are investing their small savings in the share market and purchasing shares of public limited companies hoping to earn better return compared to savings in terms of deposit schemes with the banks. They want to know the financial position and other fundamentals of the companies to take the decision about purchasing additional shares or to dispose of the existing ones.
The public limited companies registered under Company Act 1994 are supposed to send invitation notice of the Annual General Meeting to their shareholders. It is a common complaint of the public owning the shares is that the companies concerned do not send them any such invitation letters. I myself have a few shares issued by different public limited companies. Regrettably though, my case is also no exception, for I have gone through similar unpleasant experiences.
Under the circumstances, I like to draw the attention of the authorities in charge of the public limited companies concerned to look into the matter and ensure sending invitation letters of AGM to all shareholders to the addresses already available with them.
