Inviting foreign investment in education

Tuesday, 14 April 2009

Every year, over 4,000 new students from Bangladesh go to India to pursue their studies at various levels. Students of Bangladesh are going to other countries of the world as well. That incurs loss of a substantial amount of foreign currency for Bangladesh.
The developed countries in the world have standard education sectors, where a substantial number of foreign students are studying and spending significant portions of their budgets for education.
We have no education policy, though under every government committees are formed for preparing one. In the meantime, the government has also formed a committee in this regard.
The previous government established export processing zones (EPZs) across the country and earned a large amount of foreign currency sending goods to the foreign countries produced in the EPZs.
We could establish Economic Education Zones (EEZs) where educational institutions would be established maintaining international standards which include playgrounds, swimming pools, gymnasiums, etcetera.
I would like to request the education and the finance ministers, chairman of the education committee and authority concerned to take necessary steps so that we have residential international standard education in EEZs at secondary and tertiary levels soon.
