Involve realtors in finalising Building Construction Rules

REHAB urges govt

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 23 April 2024

Country's realtors have expressed dismay over finalisation of the drafted Building Construction Rules for Dhaka city without prior consultation with them.
The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has urged the government to involve the association in the process of finalising the proposed rules.
According to the REHAB, implementation of the proposed Dhaka Building Construction Rules-2024 will increase house rent in the city and will raise apartment price here as well.
Recently the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has published the draft of the building construction rules.
After getting public opinion on the proposed draft rules, the government will pass the law.
Just before passage of the law, the biggest stakeholder of the real estate business REHAB opposed the contents of the proposed law.
On Sunday, REHAB, the biggest association of the country's real estate developers, issued a press release saying that Dhaka Building Construction Rules-2024 is not practical.
According to the REHAB, the government did not ask for any opinion from the biggest stakeholders.
The proposed rules will bleed general people and it will also harm land owners, building owners and builders, says the association.
According to the proposed rules, the height and width of new buildings will be reduced in Dhaka. It will also reduce the number of apartments per building.
According to the REHAB, it is contradictory to the country's development goals.
The proposed rules will deepen land crisis in the country and will also increase pressure on agricultural lands.
As a result, house rent in the city will also increase. Real estate developers will also lose their business.
The REHAB has demanded that their recommendations be taken into consideration before passing the law. Earlier laws were framed considering the REHAB's recommendations.
