Inward remittance $11,465.54m till Oct 2014

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain informed the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) that inward remittance to Bangladesh was US $ 11,465.54 million (Tk 88,997.34 crore) till October of 2014. Replying to a scripted question of Treasury Bench Member of Parliament Momtaz Begum (Manikganj-2), the Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister said that the inward remittance flow to the country in 2008 was $ 8,979 million (Tk 61,587.83 crore). The minister said that during the tenure of the grand alliance government over the last five years, Bangladeshi workers were sent to some 159 countries as against 97 countries during the tenure of the previous four-party alliance government. He also informed the House that some 24,51,093 Bangladeshi workers went abroad over the last five years and the inward remittance flow during the period totaled $ 61.90 billion while some 13,00,537 Bangladeshi workers went abroad during the tenure of last four-party alliance government with inward remittance totaling $ 18.36 billion during that period, according to a news agency.
