IOM DDG arrives in city today

Ambassador Laura Thompson, the deputy director general (DDG) of International Organisation for Migration (IOM), is scheduled to arrive in the city this morning (Tuesday) on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh.
This is the first-ever high-level official visit by IOM to Bangladesh since the organisation started its formal operation in the country in 1998, IOM office told the FE.
During her stay in Bangladesh, Thompson will meet Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engr. Mosharraf Hossain, the home secretary and the foreign secretary. She will also be the guest of honour at the launching ceremony of a training manual on supporting the trafficking victims.
Ambassador Thompson was elected IOM deputy director general in June 2009, and assumed her post in September 2009. She was formerly the ambassador and permanent representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations office and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland. Besides, she held various posts as legal counsel for the UN.
