FE Report
The Dhaka regional office of International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the occasion of the International Migrants' Day 2009, hopes that Bangladesh will continue to further consolidate the rights of the migrants and promote wise practices vis-à-vis migration within and beyond South Asia.
"It is encouraging to see that Bangladesh has been accepted as a labour-exporting country in the world. With remarkably high remittances, the overseas employment sector has been resilient to the negative impact of the global financial crisis," says Rabab Fatima, Regional Representative of IOM in Dhaka
She noted the high potential of promoting the good reputation of hard working Bangladesh migrants and stressed ensuring the protection of migrants and would-be migrants at home and abroad.
To mark the International Migrants' Day 2009, IOM lauded the Government of Bangladesh for its recent winning of the chairmanship of the Colombo Process, a platform of dialogue of 11 migrant worker sending countries from Asia, including Bangladesh.
