TEHRAN, Jun 26 (APP): The Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project will promote trilateral economic relations on a long-term basis, Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Shafkat Saeed has said.
In an exclusive interview with a leading Iranian English language newspaper Iran Daily, he said the gas pipeline will be a major source of energy for India and Pakistan for 30 to 40 years.
The envoy expressed the hope that the project will also help enhance relations between Pakistan and India, paving the way for sustainable peace in the region.
The Ambassador said, "There is every reason for us to pursue the IPI project from a commercial point of view."
In response to a question about US opposition to the project, he said, "We do not have any differences with Iran that can be inflamed by any third party."
He said relations of Pakistan with other countries "do not mean that our relations with Iran can be influenced."
Iran has also relations with other countries and Pakistan is not interested in what Iran's relations are with other powers in the world, he added. Shafkat Saeed said that Pakistan and Iran share deep-rooted relations and have every reason to widen the base of the bilateral ties.
