Iqbal Mand Banu seeks fresh notice from ACC

A day after the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) gave approval to file a graft case against her, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, mother-in-law of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, on Wednesday sent an application through her lawyer urging the ACC to issue a fresh notice for submission of her wealth statement. The application said despite knowing well that compliance with the ACC notice is mandatory, Banu was, however, unable to provide the statement of movable and immovable assets and liability acquired by her or by her dependents in their name or in the name of others, and the sources of income with detailed particulars, within the time specified. After the Supreme Court overrode the High Court order staying the operation of the ACC notice on September 6 in 2013, Banu has been waiting for a fresh notice to be issued to her so that she can comply with it, said the application. The ACC received the application on Wednesday. Barrister AM Mahbubuddin Khokon, the counsel for Iqbal Mand Banu, submitted the application to the ACC., said an official. On Tuesday, the ACC at its regular meeting approved the filing of the case against Banu since she could not submit her wealth statement to the Commission within the deadline, according to a news agency.
